Support and training

All our volunteers are given plenty of support and training in order to carry out their roles well, to have a positive experience at Victim Support, and to develop their skills while volunteering with us.

We believe training is a good investment of charity funds, but we do ask that when applying for a volunteer role you give serious consideration to whether you can commit for a reasonable length of time, to help ensure we’ve invested those funds wisely.

“I feel part of Victim Support because the training was thorough and the support from the team is great – always someone there to answer any queries and lots of information too.” – Karen, Avon and Somerset

  • Regular one-to-one meetings with your manager
  • Agreed expenses
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP): all volunteers and employees have free access to this helpline, which can provide support and advice on a range of issues including health and wellbeing, relationships, childcare and careers
  • Monthly Volunteer Update e-newsletter keeping you informed of news from our volunteers across the country, extra training and organisational updates.

We have an online eLearning platform for all volunteers and staff. Each type of volunteer role has mandatory learning to complete, scaled to the type of activities you’ll be doing and the time commitments of the role. This way you can get started as soon as possible!

Once you’ve completed your mandatory learning, there are more specialist training opportunities available.
